AE92 Parking Brake adjustment

Ok. I have been doing my rear drums for the past week or so..... I finally got everything back together. The problem is now the parking brake doesnt work at all. I did the whole driving backwards and braking thing, but it isnt doing anything. I tried puliing it a lot of times, and it doesnt do anything. I adjustted the length of the parking brake lever (it was over 10 clicks), and it still isnt doing anything. Pulling the lever now is at the most 5 clicks, but I can still push the car with my foot. Any suggestions other than taking her to some mechanic? This is soooo the last time I ever do drums on a car....

On a separate note, where can I buy a Toyota shop manual for the 1990 Corolla? I have the Haynes for the car (84-92), but it is too diluted for me. It tends to be rather vague and general, since it covers too many models (yeah, it is a Corolla, but I am sure there were a lot of changes between 84 and 92).

Thanks!

Start by determining if the adjuster is adjusting. With the drum off, have someone raise and lower the parking brake lever and see if the cable from the brake is really causing the adjuster to adjust. The little gear (or "star wheel") should cause the adjuster to lengthen and the ratchet should catch the gear as it turns so that it only turns one way. Having the ratchet not catch is a problem that I have had.

For a factory manual, periodically check ebay and abe.com. On abe, search for author: Toyota Motor and keyword: Corolla.

...and the 91 or 92 manual would be essentially the same book as the '90. The '89 doesn't have the electronic fuel injection covered.

By any chance, would a FSM from a 91 Geo Prizm work just as well? I could have sworn those were rebadged Corollas....

Hey Guy,
They should have one in the stickys or somewhere on here that you can download. Ask one of the moderators or check www.club4ag.com and check the tech. pages before you buy one.

For a given model year, I think the Corolla and Przim books have the same information. I have a 1996 Prizm manual (but not a 1996 Prizm or Corolla) and it is organized differently than the Toytota factory manual.
