VSS for 97 corolla

My electrical schematic shows three wires for a 1.8 97 corolla vehicle speed sensor, but only two are connected to the sensor... any ideas on this?

Sure you're looking at the right thing? The VSS is down low and to the rear(firewall side) on the tranny, not the 2 wire plug on top of it near the linkage (just figured this out myself.)
