Grinding noise when cold

At startup in the mornig when is cold and so far only in winter for a good minute i hear a grinding noise coming from the front immediately after starting the engine. Sounds like a bad bearings noise....but where? on the alternator? after a minute goes away and car sounds perfectly...the sounds fades a bit if i press the clutch. Never in summer or warm days.
any clou? oh it's a corolla 2004
thankyou

My 89 had a similar noise last year. When the clutch pedal was pressed the noise completely faded away. Never affected how it drove, and I was going to swap the engine/tranny before too long so I never worried about it. To be honest I thought it was either my pressure plate vibrating a bit or the linkage vibrating until the engine warmed and settled. Good Luck

my car is pretty good in the cold, minus the speedo cable. Besides the suspension seems harder in the cold

Now that you mention the speedometer cable, it can make a grinding noise. Taking it apart at the connector and putting "cable lube" on it fixed that sound on my '89.
