Must one take off the dash to do this? I took the dash of my '90 Prizm and I don't see how you could replace the instrument panel lights without doing this. But perhaps someone knows a way to reach up beind there and do it.

If you remove the dash, the first step is to remove the steering wheel, so it helps to have a steering wheel puller. Check that you get a puller with a selection of metric bolts. If you only get non-metric bolts you have no chance of getting some that fit.

The lights around the console near the shifter , on an AT, can be replaced without messing with the dash.

Its actually real easy. You dont need to remove the steering wheel if you are doing the lights for your dash. There are a half dozen or so screws to take out. Take out the screws that hold the instrument panel in place. The whole assembly will drop toward the steering wheel. Let it rest on the steering wheel and remove the 3 small light bulbs. They twist out pretty easy. Take them to your dealership because there were so many different sized bulbs that it will make things much simpler so they can match them up and get you the right ones. It doesnt take very long to open it up and putting it back together is even quicker.

Exclamation

There's one continuous piece that goes across the bottom of the plastic cluster cover over to the AC controlls that looks like it needs to be removed before you can even get to the screws for the cluster removal..

Is there an easier way than removing this huge piece?
