Check engine light

Hey guys, I own a 96 corolla dx, recently i put an aftermarket air intake on the vehicle. i was driving around most of the summer and a little into the fall when the check engine light randomly appeard. I have no idea what the problem could be, I did a full tune up of the car about a year ago. I have heard rumors from friends that an aftermarket intake can fry the cat, is this the problem.

Nobody in here would know either. At least have the code(s) pulled. Or maybe you forgot to plug in your IAT after installing the aftermarket intake. Intake ducting cannot fry a Cat Conv. Only a rich exhaust can do that.

Did you plug in all the hoses and sensors that the OEM intake hose had, into the aftermarket intake?? Make sure you do, generic intakes sometimes don't have the plugs for the sensors, but if you bought an intake specifically made for the car, then they should all be there. If you bought a generic intake, you might have to drill holes to get sensors on it.

the only sensor that an intake would disrupt is the iat.... and that won't throw a code (because it would just read the temp of the ambient air....)

depends on mileage.... but quite possibly could be an o2 code
