My First Car!

Hey guys,

I just bought my first car the other day. It's a 1988 Toyota Corolla Hatchback! It's only done 174,000 kms and cost me $2000.

I've never been a major car enthusiast so please excuse me if I sound like a n00b or anything. But after I fix my air con I wanna start doing it up a little, I'm looking at exhaust and engine upgrades. Any suggestions?

cheers guys!

exhaust wise...headers, high flow cat, strait pipe to a high-flow muffler...if ur going to do the exhaust might as well let it breathe...there are plenty of ram-air intakes and a few good colds...easiest way to engine upgrade is to go for the swap...but if u dont wanna get a new engine...new cams, pistons, underdrive pulleys...i'd go for new wireing and plugs just to start fresh...

If you have to ask about the price of a turbo kit its probablly too much. I think what the veteran 86 drivers would say is drive it for a while until you are really comfortable with the car and can take it to its limits. Make the repairs you need to keep it running and when you do upgrade start with the suspension. Thats where it all begins for the drifters. Then when you want to increase your power do it overtime, here is a link for some used engines for reasonable prices, these don't include everything you need at this price but you can get a good idea. http://www.gspeedcorp.com/engines/index.htm

Check that out but before you do anything make sure your car is good and straight free of rust and in good running conditions. Save tips from pizza deliveries or whatever you do for a living and make big investments after you can drive it like it is.

But yeah, right now I'm just getting a few things repaired before I start doing my car up. Just wanted to know what my options were in regards to a new engine!

thanks man
