Actually, that's not bad... I mean, for only $900. But, I'm sure there's a lot more wrong with it!
I went to look at an '86 4Runner on Thursday, a friend of mine is in the market for a project 4x4 and I'm his "car expert". Seller wanted $1800, and admitted that the truck was a little rough, but that it was running well after getting a new head, alternator, complete exhaust, and a bunch of other minor repairs.
It's true, the truck ran strongly, despite the tapping valves (right after getting a new head?), the leaking front main seal, and something broken in the rear suspension that went "clunk". But as we walked around the truck pointing out other shortcomings (tailgate won't unlatch, major body rust, hole in fender, etc), he was all "oh ya, that too, that too, I forgot." I believe him... it's not like he thought we wouldn't notice these things, they just aren't important to him. The truck runs well and that's good enough for him.
The price was right but my buddy's just not up for that amount of restoration work. We're looking for something in the $3600 range now
So I wonder what else is "below the radar" in the mind of the guy selling the Corolla!
