91 corolla starting issues

i recently had bought this corolla and it had a loose wire on the starter and made sure it was on, the rolla ran fine and started up till yesterday, when i push the clutch in i can turn the key and hear the fuel pump going but the started doesn;t crank, i have cleaned all my grounds and checked all the fuses and all seems fine but its still not firing, i have fuel and im not sure how to check for spark. if anyone could lead me on where else to check it would be greatly appeciated. im sick of driving the damn metro.

Probably just the starter solonoid (sp?). Common problem on 4a's

Just give the starter a few sharp cracks with a hammer, should free up (for a while).

Also just to add, no point in checking/worring anout fuel or spark if the engine isn't cranking. The starter or battery is the problem.
