Fuel line/filter question

Hi guys, I have a 93 Prizm and I was trying to replace the fuel filter the other day. The ‘out’ connection was easy to remove but the ‘in’ end of the filter was stuck to the metal fuel line very tight. I was finally able to wrench it off, but I think I damaged the connection between the connector nut and the fuel line, as the nut now twists freely on the end of the line and seems somewhat loose, though it is still attached. Any idea how this can be safely fixed?

the flare nut IS supposed to spin freely on the metal line, actually its great the nut spun loose without you having to use WD40 on it. If you tried to wrench the nut (remember to use a line wrench) and it was seized on the metal line, you may end up kinking/twisting the metal line, and you don't want that.

As long as the line right now is not twisted, and the flare on the open end is not deformed then you should be alright.

i had a dickens of a time changing mine recently. i ended up having to cut the metal in line off and bend up a new peice of line, bubble flare both ends, and use a peice of high psi fuel line to connect them with 2 worm clamps. no leaks and it will never leak.

Thanks. I thought it would leak since the nut was originally very tight on the line. Actually it was awful, I didn't use a line wrench (don't know what that is--can I get one at Autozone?) and it took a lot of WD-40 and over an hour to get that thing off.

I did end up twisting the line a bit, but I bent it back and there are no (visible) cracks or kinks, so I'll give it a shot as is.

I appreciate the help.

Bitter, where can I buy the tool that flares the line, and what is it called? I may have to do something like this in the future and I want to be prepared.

its called a double flaring kit, i got mine from napa but buy a better one than i did. my 1st one broke through no fault of my own! it takes a little practice to get good flares so buy a couple peices of brake line and practice practice practice till you have it right.
