Question 1991 Toyota Corrola - side to side swaying

I would appreciate any help on figuring out why my 1991 Corrola sways from side to side when riding on bumpy, uneven roads...its very noticeable when driving on uneven sections of hiways at 60 or more mph. Recently installed 4 new struts and this eliminated the up and down bounce but the side to side motion remains.

Thanks for any advice.

What parts of the suspension did yo check while you were changing the struts? (Tie rod ends? Ball joint?) Has the alignment been checked and are the tires wearing evenly?

And does swaying mean it tilts out of level from side side but drives straight? Or does it tend to veer off the road unless you steer to correct it?

Most cars do that, I've driven in a lot of cars that sway like that in funky roads. Usually cars with narrow wheel bases do, wide track cars seem to be less prone to it BUT it still happens to them sometimes.

Yea check alignment, what size tyres/rims are you running.

what size tires do you have? the larger the sidewall usually the more flex there is and that could cause your problem

So could a busted swaybar link (on the rear only for the sr5 and sedan, and front and rear for the gts.)

THANKS to everyone for your suggestions...I will check the alignment first and see if that solves it.

I don't know whether you replaced the springs when you replaced the struts. But your problem made me wonder about the following situation: Suppose I had a '90's corolla where the front and back springs were reversed when I installed the struts/ Would it drive funny? Or would I even be able to reverse the springs? ---just a random thought, it's probably not related to your situation.

Can't reverse them, the diameters are very different.

Could also be things like control arm bushes, swaybar end links or mounts.

A good shop sould give it a quick check over when they do an alignment.
