Ha ha yeah then you can run a 17 second quarter mile.
Seriously the 1zz is embarassingly slow, if you want something faster trade it in on a car with potential......otherwise enjoy a reliable feul efficient economy car for what it is.

Interesting that coming from a driver of a 2ZZ which only has 35 more horsepower and takes 8,000 rpm to make any of that power. Seriously I am not trying to turn this into a 2zz vs. 1zz battle but they are both good engines. Yeah, the 2zz is more powerful but at what cost? Gas mileage, and the fact that the powerband for that motor is only good about 6400 rpm?? The 1zz isn't embarrasingyl slow, sure its no hod rod motor and never will be but it is a very durable and reliable engine that Toyota actually built, unlike the Yamaha built 2zz

2zz = 190hp = fast
1zz = 136hp = slow
Thats a 54hp differnece where I come from. ~40% more power.

I don't know what Corolla that motor came in factory but as of 2005, the 2zz was rated at 164 horses in the XRS. Thats 28 horsepower, if you can prove me wrong please do. I am basing these off of STOCK numbers.

Though this topic is not about 2zz, but you seem to be focusing on XRS vs 1ZZ Corolla, stock they are over 1 second apart (15.3 vs 16.4 secs) so there you have it.
North American SAE ratings are different from Australian/European DIN HP rating (called brake horsepower). XRS was rated at 170 HP and GTS at 180 HP in 05 (before the new SAE ratings with 164 hp were in effect in which cars had to be tested under a much stricter protocol) while in Europe both GTS and T Sport/Sportivo were rated at 190 bhp while 1zz is 136 bhp.
I have seen many dyno jet dynos for European/Australian Corolla T Sport and comparing to XRS, they dyno within a 2-3 hp at the wheels of each other (150 - 155 hp at the wheels).
By the way, with only intake and exhaust, my XRS dynos at approx. SAE corrected 170 whp (with Octane 94). That is close to 194 HP at the crank and I ran a 14.9@96 mph at the drag strip (I have dyno and timeslip scans to back all of this up). This is only the start.
Turn up the volume for these:
My 05 XRS with only Injen intake (old vid relaxed shifting, no sp2 exhaust at that time):

Short gearing 6 speed manual with a 4.53 final drive ratio that revs up fast and keeping them high through gear shifts is the key to making full use of power above 6000 rpm.
You seriously are making uneducated guesses about a car that you know little about.
I have owned both a 1ZZ-FE Corolla for a year and a half (22,000 KM) and an 2ZZ-GE XRS for over 2 years (31,000 KM) so I should know. I rev my 2ZZ-GE up to 8400 rpm regularly and yet it feels extremely refined and smooth with ZERO problems whatsoever. My friend has had an 06 XRS for almost a year with ZERO problems.

Using the US specs its 130 vs 170 bhp in 05 or 126bhp vs 164 bhp in 06 (according to MSN auto's), either way you look at it it 38-40 hp difference. Cheap & simple bolt ons aren't going to make the hp difference between the two, hence the recoomendation of buying an XRS.
