rumour on JDM bumpers

I went to Dori-Kaze and there was a post regarding JDM bumpers... it says they won't ship them here anymore because they are not DOT approved anymore...

anyone have another source which says no?

Just tell them it's for off-road use or show car use...

They shouldn't be able to do that! Maybe your car is only a show car, or it's a track car.. If it's not registered than they can't control you, and even if it is registered and on the road, is a cop going to pull you over and ask of this bumper is Japanses???

Well the problem you guys are over-looking is that if someone were to get into an accident and sustained serious injury because there is no re-bar, Toyota Canada could be sued by someone who was proven to have bought the bumper thru them. To avoid such an issue, they would just stop selling. They are not in the market to sell you race cars or race car only parts. Otherwise, why wouldn't we go to nissan and order a SR20DET? It just doesn't work like that.

They probably got suspicious when they found out that they had a usually high number of people ordering some bumper all coming from Japan. They're not stupid y'know. :p

thats right. thats why many aftermarket parts that come from delaership are road legal and thats why when the dealer does the instal on aftermarket parts, it does not void warranty.

part and parcel is that it also assumes liabillty. a trained and certified Toyota mechic installed the item therefore, Toyota is directly liable.

so i can understand (if such were the case) why Toyota would stop importing the bumpers and such. Potentially, they are liable if anything does happen, so why take the risk when the actual payoff is nothing substantial.

makes sense.
