Turboconversion on a 4A-F

Hello there!

I'm pretty new to this forum, and my english vocabulari in motorparts aint the greatest, just so you know...

I have a 4A-F engine in my 1989 AE92 hatchback with a cat, that I'm thinking about putting a litle turbo on.

Ive got a litle Garret turbo from a Citroen Jumpy 1.9 TD

I need a vacumbox on my carb, I need to get turbo on a manifold (ofcourse..)
I need oil to the turbo, and make a return.

I don't know what more i need, so please fill me in, with every litle detail!

Also, anyone know the comp. on the head etc... if there are any need to lower it..

my plan is to go on about 0.3 - 0.5 bar...

Anyone else done this? Any ideas? or anything?..

First of all forget a Turbo diesel turbo from such a small engine. Your turbine side A/R is gonna be so restrictive, its going to raise exhaust side pressure, which will also increase temperature. Now the problem here is you're gonna drop the valveguides and cook the exhaust valves.
Get atleast a turbo from a gasoline engine if you plan to go with a small turbo. For example Saab.

Are there any small gasoline powered 3 cylinder turbo cars over there? The turbo off of one of them should work fine.

would be too small, small turbo = shit on the upper end. Why not just use a turbocharger from a 4 cyl gasoline engine and call it a day? You could fit a T25 or a T03 with an external wastegate quite easily.

So your running blow through. You'll need some method of controling fuel pressure, as the factory pressue is very low.

I have a friend who melted a K series motor because of this, high boost levels stopped alot of fuel getting in.

9.5:1 isnt that big of a deal with such low boost.
As for fuel pressure controlling, EFI fuel pump and for example a Malpassi/FSE rising rate fuel pressure regulator.

You wont need the EFI wiring... you can make your own and use Megasquirt EFI.
At this point, I really suggest buying a book to get the basics for the whole thing together.

Now the plan looks like getting a 4A-GE manifold, and megasquirt and then a turbo with aprox 0.5 bars.. I don't think i should go any higher than that, and I don't want to lower the comp ratio..

4A-GE manifold wont fit.
I'm gonna run 0.5-0.8bar on the street with the stock compression. When I get my modified head done I'm gonna run +1bar, maybe 1.5bar
