Broken Noisy Transmission

I have an '04 MT Corolla S. Around 96k miles it started making a grinding noise whenever it was in gear. The noise happened at every gear and went away if the clutch was down.

Long story short, I brought it in and needed to get a new transmission for $3000 (luckily covered under my 100k mile warranty).

I will admit it probably was my fault for not getting the MT fluid changed or inspected (I didn't even know it existed until I started looking for a fix to my problem!). So, all you maintenance non believers, consider yourself warned.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a simliar problem with their transmission or if I was just unusually unlucky?

Lucky they didn't find out about you not changing the tranny fluid! I don't really think that would cause internal failure though. You don't race it or shift without a clutch by any chance do you?

No, besides the tranny fluid oversight I take great care or her. The 96k were fairly easy highway miles for the most part too.
