AE92 A couple questions...

1.Whats a good way to see if a caliper is stuck?
I think one of mine is jammed but im not even sure of what side of the car to look on.

2.what would cause my clutch pedal to feel "sticky"?
When I push the pedal slowly I feel a kind of resistance on it until it get about half way down. this hasn't really been an issue untill im trying start on a hill and need to feather it initially. I checked to see if there is anything in the way but I see nothing.

Thanks

for one i would jack each side of the car up and spin the front wheels to see what kind of resistance there is...then repeat on back...as for 2 my clutch is like that its kinda hard at first then easier as the pedal goes down...but i kinda like it that way...dont ask why but i do..and mines perfectly fine..

1. If your caliper was truly stuck you would smoke your wheel on whatever side that it is stucking when you drive it.
2. You can try this: drive reasonably slow and apply the brakes evenly. If one is stuck or pulling more than the rest, the car will pull in that direction.
3. The best way is to physically check each caliper. Pull them off the wheels one by one and check the movement. Keep in mind the backs probably dont move the same way as the fronts. The pistons may squeeze shut or they may twist to compress them. If they move with even pressure they are most likely not stuck. You could have some dirt or trash in them. Check your fluid level too.

The clutch: Check your clutch fluid first. You may need to bleed the clutch. If you feather your clutch thats a good way to burn out your clutch. That may be your problem too if you've been doing that for awhile. A car is not like a motorcycle. A motorcycle has a wet clutch so you can feather/ride the clutch. A car does not. So be careful.

Touch your wheels after driving, if your calipers are stuck, your wheel will be hot as hell! that and it will smoke.. I know from experience, and it will also feel like you're trying to slow down even if the brakes are not on.

Ok, I havent had the time yet to look at the calipers or lift the car to check resistance. but I did touch each wheel and look for smoke. I have found nothing of the sorts. I drive about 45 min every day so my guess is thats enough time to heat things up.
I notice a slight "jerking" motion (for lack of better terms) when coasting out of gear. Is there anything else that could cause this??

As for the clutch I have bled it again with no change.
I guess "feathering" is not a good way to put what I do while on a hill. Its more like letting out the clutch slowly untill I feel it grab then continue to let up. The pedal feels sticky (this is really hard to explain) right at this point. The feeling reminds me of running my finger down a wet piece of glass... when I push harder it makes that squeeky noise and doesnt slide as clean

It would take only about a mile or two from jump for your wheels/brakes to heat up enough to start smoking. If you are driving 45 minutes and you havent melted your wheel off by then you dont have stuck calipers.
When you say "jerking" motion do you mean the front end is vibrating or the steering wheel is pulling one way or the other, or the car is bouncing? This sort of thing could be from a bad alignment or wheel balance to needing new tie rods or a steering rack. You need to narrow your search and eliminate some of these variables.
The clutch: The pedal probably feels sticky because its starting to engage at this point. "When you push harder" Why would you need to push harder if you are letting the clutch out? Not really sure what this part of your explanation means.

Sorry for not being clearer on that. I meant push harder on the glass as an example of the feeling in the pedal.

The "jerking" is a front to back motion not left to right. feels similar to my GF's car while on the brakes with warped rotors but not as noticeable. when I apply brakes firmly it feels good. but like I said when coasting (only on a smooth road) I can feel a tugging/jerking motion.

That doesnt necessarily mean brakes. That could mean transmission is pulling or maybe the clutch needs to be adjusted. Or take it to an alignment shop and have them check it out. You could have a tire thats out of round. One of your axle bearings could be getting ready to go. Usually they make noise but it is possible.

Instead of rolling along nice and smooth. Maybe your clutch is sticking or you are low on gear oil. Auto or manual? Either way it only takes a few minutes to check.
