i have a 1997 corolla CE with a 4afe with about 141000 miles on it. one day i was driving and i stopped at a stop light..it was a fairly level road and i heard a noise from the engine and it sounded likethe rocker or car was hitting the valve cover..idk if it was that but thats the easiest way to describe the noise..i reved it probally up to about 2 grand and let it idle again and it still kinda did it. i would say it was ideling about 7-900 RPM then..any ideas as to what it could be?
yes im sorry i forgto to add that..thats what i first thought it was and i checked it when i got home on a level spot...it was about 3/4 on the fill line so it was fine...it only does this everyonce in a while..when i stop i turn the radio off and listen and i only hear it about half the time...
I asked because that is what my friends car sounded like when one of the motor mounts started to go, but there was a lot of vibration to go along with it. A month later it was constant and could rattle teeth out...

I am not bieng a smartass.. get one, you might be able to use any stethascope, it will help you isolate the noice. Also, don't drive it that way, you might end up making hte problem much worse.. and possibly destroy an engine that need not be detroyed.
