Canada OPPS..Over Filled Engine Oil..help

I just changed the engine oil for the 03 Corolla and over filled the engine oil. The oil reading is past the maximum.

What are my options here?? Without changing the oil again.

Loosen the drain bolt and let only as much drain out as needed.

How much over full is it ?? If it's just 1/2L or so, I would leave it or do what Amber said.
Keep the "drippings to add later if required.

P.B.

Get a vampire pump and go through the dipstick tube. Pull out however much you need.

Yeah, a half quart or less is nothing to get worried about. I ran my 88 Corolla that way for 2 weeks because I was too lazy to drain off the excess oil. Nothing bad came from being a half quart over full.

Hey JK15, how much too full is the engine? If its a small amount, it wont be a problem to leave it alone. Now if its alot too full that can cause you problems.

Its about 1cm above the maximum level...I think from what you guys are saying it should be fine. So I'm gonna leave it. Thanks for the help.

Being a toyota mechanic, I wouldn't take a chance on ruining your beloved toyota.. The Maximum mark is there for a reason... It doesnt take much to get under your car and drain the oil into a pan and put that same oil back into the car. Maybe 5-10 minutes.. Yes it might not be a problem but it COULD be.. Its your call and your car but specifications are there for a reason..

I really don't think dipsticks are calibrated that accurately that a bit over the full mark would hurt the engine.

Ill go with Newbie212. My sister had a sweet little 88 celica GTS that she over filled about a half QT. Three days later it had a blown head gasket. She did take it on a 150 mile trip but still.

I think it takes like 1QT to make my dipstick move 1CM.

I personally would not risk it. Especially when it sounds as if you had every thing nesessary to do a oil change and this is all you need to simply open it up and let a little out.

I found that the service center overfilled my 2005 Camry SE by two quarts, which made the engine feel sluggish. Once I had corrected it, the engine came back to life, which is what happens when you let someone else do your oil change.

The car had about 6 quarts when the recommended amount in the owner's manual is 4.

Unrelated problems.

But still, i'd drain it out, windage is not good.

I beg to differ. She took this car to Toyota and was told that too much oil was creating too much oil pressure. Come to think of it thats what happened to my buddies truck too

Windage lowers the oil pressure.

and there is no such thing as too much oil pressure, untill you split the oil filter anyway.

Neither of these problem would blow a HG, thats a temperature issue

How could oil pressure blow a headgasket? I could see high oil pressure dislodging a seal or two, but a headgasket?
