What to look for

I am starting to look for an AE86. I currecntly own a 93 camry that is going to hopefully, if all goes well, have some parts prototyped on it. In the mean while, i need a car, and have always loved the old corollas. My question is, what should i get? I would like to build it into a scca racer/street car. Whats an SR 5 or the GT-S? All i know is i want a hatch back.

if you're looking for ae86, there's only sr5 or gts in coupe or hatchback form available from 1984 (1984 produced sr5 only) to 1987 in north america

The SR5 had drums in the back instead of disks like the GTS.

It came with the 4A-C engine (very underpowered) compared to the GTS' 4A-GE twin cam engine.

No LSD in the SR5

those are the main differences that concern most enthusiasts although there are others

The first gen 4A-GE was an excellent engine for its time and may be well suited to your application.
