The easiest way is to find a wide open space with limited friction (ie: empty parking lot with wet leaves, ice, snow, grass, mud, etc.) and stomp the brakes. If the wheels lock, you don't have ABS. The other way is to pop the hood and see if you have the ABS module and related equipment, or pull a wheel and see if the speed sensors are there, but you have to know what to look for, therfore the first way is the best for the technically unsofisticated. I guess another way is to look for the ABS light which appears briefly when you start the car. If you see it, you have ABS. If there is no ABS light, you don't.

i have ABS in my Prizm. My ABS light comes on for a sec when I first start it, I imagine the non ABS cars don't do that. I am not sure ABS was available as an option in 99, but that is just going some tidbit in my memory, I might be confusing it with another car.

Find a safe place and stomp on the brakes, everyone should do this at least once anyway.

My 01 rolla has ABS. The ABS module is located near the driver side near the firewall. If you plan on installing a short ram intake, the abs module will be an obstacle for you because most companies didnt make the short ram intake with abs folks in mind. Another thing is that when you turn on teh car, the abs light should turn on for a brief second.

The easiest and safest way is to pop the hood and have a look under your washer bucket if there is a grey box with four brake lines in and four out, then uve got abs.

Stomping the brakes is fun, but if you just want to see if youve got ABS, then just look under the hood. It is a good idea to check your brakes often - but this can be done visually too...
