how much work is needed to put a 5sfe head on a 4age bottom end?
found a 5sfe engine for 600 bones. think it was a jap spec, wasn't from a sw-20 cause of the black valve covers..

Much too much, completely different head/block designs, the 4AG is dualcam and the 5S is single. The 4AG also has different valve angles compared to the 5S, its not gonna work. sorry.

why would u want a 5sfe head on a 4age block?

first of all, they dont even bolt together, and even if they did, why would u want to do it? the 5sfe motor was designed by toyota with economy in mind.... it's less performance oriented than the 4age.....

okay maybe it wasn't a 5sfe maybe it was a 3sge if there is such an engine. Damn I'm confused. what engine has black valve covers with horizontal ribs on the top of the covers. It wasn't an ae111 20 valve.

lol what? who is this

i go to commerce to eat...and that's about it

with regards to ur question....3sge head or anything wont bolt onto the 4age block. if u'd like to do a swap and have $$$ then go with a 3sgte....

but asside from that, i wouldnt see why u'd really want to swap out the 4age as it's a really potent motor...there's a lot of stuff u can do to it and parts are everywhere...

sorry man I thought you were a guy I met at commerce who plays initial D at commerce gate that I met.

in regard to the engine thing. I saw an engine in one of my best motoring vcd's with a red ae86 with the engine code 4.5 age
The engine I saw at a shop had the same valve covers as the one in the video...

sorry for all the confusion

u must mean the 5age.... which is basically a stroker kit designed for the 4age by HKS.... i'm not sure exactly what the displacement would be after this, but my guess is somewhere around 1800cc....it's just for the sake of getting more torque since the 4age doesnt even know the definition of torque!

if it had an actual swapped block, then the conversion would have been called 7age....where it would be using the 7afe head(someone correct me if i'm wrong)...

7afe is from...uhhh corolla i think? someone double check that? anyhow....same concept as 5age...more displacement....

to my knowledge, there are no head swapping mods commonly done to the 4age as there is really no point....u want to swap blocks for displacement, but swapping heads do next to nothing unless u got a b16 and u put on a b18c5 head on it :p

no idea, the gains wont be too much if u dont throw in cams and other things along with it. doing up the 5age requires a full tear down of the block so when u do that u may as well do some valvetrain work too since the head is off...

the jdm celi engine(st162 anyways) is 3sge

it might have been a 3SGTE swap.. found on Celicas and MR2's. very rare swap, as its not a bolt on engine.
