5-speed overdrive

on the spec sheet on a 1997 corolla CE it says 5-speed with overdrive..how does a 5-speed have overdrive??

That means that 5th gear is an overdrive gear, ie. the input shaft will turn slower than the output shaft when in top gear.

think of it with 4 gears then an overdrive gear... exactly as punter said it.... so think 4th is top and then 5 is overdrive... like a 4 speed auto...3speeds with overdrive.. thus your 4 speed with overdrive...
