Doctor, is it fatal? LOL. I showed that crack in the pic to my dad, he said it looks like the floor is pulling away from the body! I don't know if he was being serious or not but it's got me concerned. If it is terminal then maybe I should just drive the car until spring, then sell it for parts. I was thinking about putting some money into it, but if the floor really is pulling away from the body then I won't bother putting any more money into it than is neccessary to keep it alive.
Anything is fixable. The floor isnt pulling away, theres just a hole, because theres no metal there anymore just rust. I bet you can stick your finger in there. Yes its structurally not sound at the moment. However it can be fixed, its just gonna take alot of work. Are you willing to do so?
Heres an early shot of my rolla I think thats a bit worse than yours.
I don't know if the car's worth fixing up though. The rest of the body doesn't look too bad, but the previous owner did do a lot of rust repair work though. Pretty much the entire righthand side rocker panel was replaced with 17 gauge steel, a 1 foot square (roughly) hole in the floor was repaired, another almost identical hole on the other side of the car was repaired. I think there's also another small crack inside the door frame on the other side of the car. The car needs other work too before too long. The left front strut needs replacing ASAP, and the 2 rear struts aren't gonna hold up much longer. The front exhaust pipe needs to be replaced. The flex pipe is cracked and the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the flex pipe is pretty rusty too. Gas tank is leaky along the seams (knew that when I bought it) and for some reason I have to put gas it the tank very slowly or it'll gush back out of the filler neck. Brake pads and shoes are nearly worn out, I think I have a leaky wheel cylinder too. Rear defroster doesn't work (it did when I bought it), the rear wiper doesn't work and yesterday the cable to control the heat adjustment snapped. Temp gauge doesn't work either. I think there's a bad tierod or balljoint on the right front. Oh, but the engine runs good!
That's just the way of these 80's imports I guess. The body falls apart but the engine still runs. I suppose I'll just drive it til spring then buy my 96 Sunfire back from my brother.
bro, grab some industral expanding insulation foam and fill the hole, it will harden rock hard then sand the area smooth and flush, then paint and ur all good, u gotta fill the hole tho, its not that big of a problem, its just looks like it, my old chevy celebrity had the same problem and thats what i did, it works, believe me.
looks like simple rusting...like nisiqui said fill the hole. If your realy worried that much about it and itll make u feel better weld a piece of steel over the space where the hole was and sand it down, then paint...no bigs just rust...
My brother used some of that expanding foam and some pink fiberglass insulation on his old 93 Civic (with typical Honda rear 1/4 panel rust) and I think it made the fenders rot even faster, probably because the fiberglass insulation was holding moisture against the inside of the fender.

Thats like the worst thing you could do. Your car has a weakened structure already, the B pillar wont hold in a side impact. I fucking hate people who do fiberglass and urethane foam repairs, people like that shouldnt be allowed near cars. Only way to properly fix that is to weld in new metal.
And I've done, as you can see from my example pic, these things quite alot.
