Higher Mileage 1ZZ-FE Engines - Who Has???

Who on this forum has a 1ZZ-FE engine with 115k miles or greater? Other than higher oil consumption any other issues to report?

Our '98 as 132k miles and has just the oil consumption issue others have reported...

My 2002 Corolla CE w/c I trade-in at Peace Arch Toyota for a 2005 Corolla on June 27, 2006 had 175,000 Kilometers on her. I was still able to get $7,500.00 for it. Nothing wrong with the motor or automatic transmission. It just had a lot of milages on it. I am still trying to get rid of my old 2002 Toyota Corolla Factory Manual thru ebay which I got from the a dealer here.

I have a 2000 corolla ce with 230000 km and a 1999 corolla ve with 205 000 kms. Had to replace the clutch in the 2000 and nothin so far for the 99. As for oil burning their both the same when driven hard(red line in every gear) they burn about a liter of oil every 2500 km. If they are driven easy they won't burn too much oil maybe a liter every 5000 kms

Good thx, more the mileage ranges I had in mind.... 230km = 142kmiles and 205km = 127kmiles. And using a litre of oil from 1.5k to 3k miles...

My '98 looks to be using just under 1 litre (90% of quart) every 1k miles (1.6km) with 132kmiles (212km) on the engine. So things seem to be similar and consistent.

Glad to hear there's no other issues too!

Our '98 has 95,100 miles, and I'm beginning to see it burning oil about 1 liter every oil change interval (3 months or 3K miles). Is this a common issue for the 1ZZ-FE? Any known fixes? I used to own a high mileage 2001 Lexus ES300, and that car never burned a single drop of oil

Yep - seems to be a common issue once they reach around 100k miles or so. The '98 model was the 1st year with a new engine design -- pretty sure I read it was changed (improved) some in 2000?

I started this thread to try and find out if engines with mileage in the 115k+ range had any greater issues -- doesn't seem so? A few more hi miles posts from other would be good as a way to confirm. FYI -- Bought my '98 (used) for my kid to use in college - trying to anticipate any servicing issues away from home...

The engine in my 2002 was crap, the dealer finally replaced the head around 80k miles because of constant valve issues. No problems since then, though. Good thing I had the extended warranty.

USA 05 rolla S 115485

My rolla has been awesome!! I have that exact engine and it hasnt givin me any problems, I do normal maintenace on it when the service light comes on and had it in the shop for a major once over back in Sept, but that was just brakes and such. Theyt didnt change any major parts at all.
Aside from my wife backing up into my fith wheel trailer the other day.. and breaking the taillight on the right side and denting that little filler panel in between the bumper and taillight, Oh and my left rear window motor going out... speaking of that. Does anyone know a good place to get body and window motor parts.. I've found a few places... but doesnt hurt to have more..
Other than that. My rolla has been Awesome, I havent noticed any oil consumption at all.
but then again, I have a 200 mile roundtrip commute so I get the oil & filter and tires rotated just about every month and a half or so.
I also modded the car and installed a car PC in it.. but that's a whole differant topic.

Thanks!
