Well it also has alot more torque, you dont have to floor it to keep up with traffic, basically partially closed throttle will lessen the air intake of the engine, thus fuel will also be reduced. Really comparing a V8 to a I4 is like comparing chokolate to shit, you can guess which the I4 is.

On another note, headers, exhausts and intakes are put there by engineers of toyota/whatever car manufacteurer you want to pick, they do calculations and computer simulations on efficiency (on econo cars) and on performance (sports cars). Now you think some ricer-brand-ebay parts really develop their parts that well, do they do computer simulations and tests, no they dont. Most of them are just there to make it look bad ass. Now really, can you really keep a straight face and say that Ebay-parts/ricer-parts actually increase mileage AND power? I sure as hell cant and I find the claim absolutely ridiculous.
Toyota spends millions in their R&D to achieve their goals, ricerparts are generally made by someone with a tig that thinks something looks cool. But hey since its cool its gotta work right?

And more, gaining power with plugs. Sure it sounds good on the internet, but go ask ANY true engine builder, not tommy-the-wrencher at the local import-shop about getting power with sparkplugs and see what they have to tell you. 9hp with plugs, big f'n haha.

Only way to have mileage is to keep your car absolutely stock, I mean 100% stock, moment you install that big ass stereo system, you'll bring load to the charging system and you'll lose some efficiency. Keep the AC off, windows closed, dont listen to the radio. Of course maintain the car aswell, you'll get mileage for sure, but is it worth all the negative aspects to cry over few miles? not in my opinion.

Check this link if you think factory mpg can't be improved. This guy is a well respected poster on this site. A retired research scientist, so he's no dummy.

Sure the factory uses computers to put these cars together. But do you think the main goal is to get you MPG. If you think so then your smokin' somethin and you're not sharing!

A very big part of the equation for the factory is noise. They want to(or have to) build quiet cars. Another is cost, better products cost more to produce and give them less profit. there is also the balancing act of putting the right engine in the right car. They often don't get that right. If it's under powered, it will overwork the engine and get worse mpg. Over powered and it uses more gas then is needed to move the car. Not to mention factory performance add-ons. That's another profit maker for them. Would they really sell them if they didn't work?

Do you really think they care how good your mileage is. As long as it fits where they want it to in the marketplace is all they're worried about. It's all about profit for them.

And nobody said a thing about e-bay/ricer products except you flash. I woud never install a no-name untested/unproven product on my car. It's why I don't or won't have the tornado. They don't work.

But there are many tested and proven products on the market that do what they claim. There is also alot of crap.

Torquemonster headers would be a good example. Designed only for 5.0 explorers and mountaineers. They post actual dyno numbers. actual tests for the actual car that people put them on. And you know what? the people that have put them on are having the results the manufacturer claims.

Auto manufacturers aren't the only ones that use computers to make cars better.

Don't be so damn pig-headed flash. Nothing is as black and white as you try to make it out to be.

Oh yea, That 9 HP for the plug I understand was done on a dyno on one of those horsepower tv shows. I didn't see it myself, I heard it second hand.

Get a warm air intake. Make it suck in hot air and youll get better mileage lol

In the case of the Vette, the relatively high MPG comes primarily from the gearing (tall 6th gear), and secondly from the low weight and good aerodynamics. In this case, you're not enjoying the power and high MPG at the same time; drop a few gears to feel the power and your MPG of course drops as well, which is back to the MPG/power trade off that we started from.

There are a lot of factors both pro and con. It also has enormous tires which equate to high rolling resistance. It's one of the few supercars in the world that enjoy that kind of mileage. I beleive it's due to excellent engineering all the way around.
