My "around town" driving is more rural than most people's driving. I drove as granny as I could, and could still only must 37.82 mpg.
That's not bad mileage at all, but considering everything that I did to get it, I think its dismall. I just made a switch to Chevron gas (for Top Tier), and I wonder if the Chevron gas has so many good additives in it, that as a percentage the amount of energy is less.
508.6 miles / 13.449 gallons.
I did get 44 mpg driving on a long trip on backroads at 55 mph. Looks like I may have to try that again soon, with Chevron gas and see if I can still get 44 mpg. Hmmm. Boring post I know, but other than trying to get good gas mileage, there's nothing really fun to do with the Corolla.

The chevron "techroline" fuel is a total crock of shit, I ran that exclusively in my freshly rebuilt rice chopper and years later when I pulled the engine apart the pistons and heads were covered in carbon deposits, total bullshit advertising ! doesn't clean anything.
Like REN said, I drove like a grandma. I didn't even get 38 mpg. A little dissapointing. The current commercial with the girl at the gas station and the nerd inside the station talking to her on the speaker says the car is rated at 41 mpg.
A couple things I noticed about that commercial. The car she drove off in was an automatic. I don't think they're rated at 41 mpg, I thought it was the manual only. And, I think the 41 mpg that they are referring to on the commercial is the hwy rating. If so, that commercial is very deceptive.
Unless Toyota has done some things with the fuel mapping since my '04 to make them even more fuel efficient. I wonder?

When you said "considering everything I did to get it" I thought you were refering to modifications like exhaust and intake and stuff like that.
If you're seeking better mileage, a premium air filter, and synthetic oil in both the tranny and engine will help. I don't know how much, but I've never seen less than 4% increase with changing your oil to Synthetic. Some do alot better. I'm on 4 forums for different cars and I have yet to read about anyone not getting better mpg with synthetic. Some have been very significant. There are other things you can do as well, but these are the most cost effective.
Marketing is marketing, doesnt correlate with real life. In the fine print, most likely its a laboratory calculation of mileage, not actual mileage. I hate driving like a grandma, plus I cant brag with mileage with my car, so I'll pass on efforts, I'm not that poor to skimp on few extra dollars for gasoline.
If I wasn't worried about mpg there is no way I would be driving a corolla (prizm) Or most 4 bangers for that matter (Notice I said most, there are exceptions)
