Canada Noise from gas tank with Corolla 2006

Hi,

I'm in need of your good advises once more:

(My car is a Corolla 2006 CE Automatic, around 6 000 km)

I'm hearing a noise (a little "boum") like something is moving under the car. I hear this sound after accelerating a little quick when my car is completely stopped (after a red light for example) but never when in movement or breaking. I beleive it is related to the gas tank because it is only doing this when completely full and until around 3/4, the sound dissapear. Is it something loose and making my gas tank move because it's too heavy or I'm only hearing the gas "moving" in my gas tank? I'm asking because I never heard that noise in my previous car, a Corolla 2003 CE Manual...

Thanks again,
Nicolas

Your car shouldn't go 'boom' from heavy acceleration. I'd also not think it's just the gas swishing around, at least not when you have a full tank. There may be something loose though, which the weight of a full gas tank exacerbates. You might also check your trunk, to see if there is anything loose back there. If you can't fing anything, I'd suggest you fill it up with gas and take it to the dealership and have the mechanic go for a ride and see if you can duplicate the problem. It should be covered under warranty.

My car has done that like once or twice, it is just the gas moving around in the tank.

Well, for me, it's doing this every time I full the gas tank and start a little "quickly" after a complete stop... is it normal?

Thanks for your help,
Nicolas

I have the exact same issue with my '06 Corolla S. It only does it on a full tank and a quick takeoff from a stop. I checked under the car and there is nothing loose. Trunk is also empty. It's gotta be the fuel in the tank. I've put on 23K miles this year and have filled up many times.....

Have you reported this to your Toyota dealer? Have they looked at it or made any reparations? (if it is fixable...)

Thanks
Nico
