UK Turbo Conversion

Hello
I own a carina.e which has a 4afe engine.
I Know its not a Corolla
Its just that theres not many carina sites that know about engine mods.

I was looking to convert mine to a turbo.
I've noticed that Flashman has done this modification.
How hard is this to do & what is needed?

Also this site has some very good info.
I'm in the u.k.

well if you know how to fabricate and can hook up a megasquirt system then you have no problems.

oh and well come to the forum

if you want you could also do a swap.
get a 4age motor to put in.
do your self alot of searches.
there is alot of info here on all kinds of mods.
you'll find so many and you won't know which one to do.

but your going to need a system like megasquirt to provide you air fuel delivery.
the OEM computer can't do that.

I'd suggest a 3S-GTE conversion onto your carina E, my friend did it on his, although it was a 3S-FE carina E to start with, but the gains are dramatic. That m'fucker pulls so hard.

Turbo manifold(most likley custom $$$$$)
Turbo with inernal or external wastegate set at 8psi
turbo downpipe(most likley custom $$$$$)
2.5" pipe(about 9' of various straight 45 and 90 degree bends)
silicone coulpes
t clamps
intercooler
bov
various lenghts of vacume hose
larger injectors
boost controller set at 6psi
oil cooler
oil lines
t fitting to feed oil to the turbo
modified oil pan for return line
mega squirt
money!!

the wastgate would be set at the max boost pressure as a safeguard for the very weak 4afe. you will likely get about 10-20k out of the engine turboed without building it up. so when you start the turbo project have a 4age silver or black or 4agze ready to go in the car.
I'm not trying to be an ass but i have the 4afe and unless your willing to tear it down and build it up your wasting your time. the best youll get on stock internals is about 180hp at the crank which relates to about 145hp on the ground. you could get close to the same results going N/A but that too requires alot of head and valvetrain work and larger injectors and either a flached or new ECU. if your looking for strip times the best youll get is very high 14's. I have to do the valve seals in my 4afe this spring and while im in there ill do a little p&p throw in some greater cams while maintaining my lift just to give it a little more umph. but other then that it what it is... a reliable engine. so if your thinking on getting any performance or spending and amount of money think seriously about an engine swap.

sorry i should hav also said that would be the right way to do it bu if you gust want to slap a turbo on then:
fmu(fuel management unit @ 10:1 i believe)
injectors(around 250cc)
fpr(fuel pressure regulator)
map bypass valve
and the other basic turbo components; pipe, turbo, manifold, downpipe...ect
put in the new injectors and fpr and set the fpr to supply stock fuel amounts, then continue with the build.
this is the wrong way to do it but it works

and the car is going to be looking for idle all day long
oh if you want to do it right, you should also look into a larger exaust piping and muffler, turbos people like to run 3" sometimes 3.25. I would probally run 2.25 to 3 on your's all depends on how much power you want, and how much time you want to spend tuning, and money
