Problem with high revving

Hi there,

Was wondering if someone could help me out. i tried searching high rev and revving problems etc... but couldnt find nething related. I've been having problems when first starting my car (AE92 GTS '89) and when i press too much gas, the engine would rev ridicoulously high (ie, rev to 5000-6000 in 2 seconds at 2nd gear, 20km/hour). feels like the engine is turning w/o load. The car has 170k km on it, so that ruled out clutch problems. After u drive it a few times, like if i drive it 3-4 times in a day, the problem goes away. Not sure whats wrong??

How does that rule the clutch out??
Does sound like a clutch problem, but can't really tell over the interweb.

Your clutch is completely gone.

But, still do the following tests to confirm:

1 - Roll in 1st gear at 10 mph or so with clutch fully released and suddenly press the gas pedal. If the car revs up, but does not move much, you need a new clutch.

2 - At idle, put it in overdrive gear (5th I guess in your case). Now try to start accelerating from a dead stop. If your car stalls, your clutch is fine. If you start rolling forward, your clutch is busted.
