Disk brake sliding pins 1997 Corolla

can someone please explain the function on the brake sliding pins. also if the top one is frozen (rusted) what happens? also the sliding bushing seems to be just on one of the pins, is this correct and why?

Slide bushings enable the floating caliper to center itself so that it can move freely when the piston is operated to clamp on the disk.

also if the top one is frozen (rusted) what happens?

your caliper will either be stuck or it will twist when you apply the brakes. (it wont be parallel to the disk)
Both the top and bottom ones are slide bushings.

What is the best lubricant to use on the sliding pins

I used rubber grease on mine.

antiseize should work to.

eh? antiseize?
When you grease up the slide bushings, use anything but petroleum based grease, you'll swell the rubbers and they'll get stuck.
