1988 Radiator Switch

My brother's radiator has a big crack in the top section.

His car is equipped w/ the auto transmission and has the extra cooling lines to the rad.

Are the rads the same between the auto and the manual vehicles? OR, can we take the rad from a manual tranny car and install the fittings into it from the old rad and reinstall? Or is there a separate passage for the transmission fluid thru the bottom of the rad in auto tranny rads?

Thanks!

you'd need the rad from an auto or get a seperate cooler for the trans. however it gets cold where you are, the cooler in the rad actually acts as a warmer for cold fluid and a cooler for hot fluid. it turns out the right temp for trans fluid is about the same as your coolant temp! too hot and it burns, too cold and it will flow slowly and not lube well.

in alot of cases the tubes and cooler are there in the manual cars just not used..

When my rad went i priced them out at the dealership, it was $560 or something for the "manual version" and 340 for the "automatic version" rad, I ended up getting a new "automatic version" Autocool rad from the local "used japanese parts" place for $97 which is now 3 yrs old and working extremely well! I just leave the cooler empty

hes going the opposite direction as you, he has an auto not a manual. the auto rad in the manual is a slight upgrade for most cars since the auto rad has a little more cooling capacity
