They're okay tires. Great bang for the buck, but nowhere near the best tire out there. If you're not putting down lots of power, and don't do a lot of agressive driving, the 512 would be probably a good fit for you.

edit: when they're new, the tread is pretty tall, so it's a little squirmy feeling.

Hankook Ventus HRII H405 are cheaper and the same or better quality. I don't know about their performance in the snow but they grip well in dry and wet. I got them for $44 each from discounttiredirect.com in 205/50/15 and have not been disappointed.

I'd pass on all season tires, they suck badly during winter and summer performance is hindered.

yes. And heres how I explain it.
All-season tires have to be made of a soft compound so that they have atleast _some_ grip for winter seasons. The soft compound will also wear them out faster during hot summer months. Also the design of the tire is such that it works ok if theres no snow nor ice, dry asphalt and its ok. However they lack the tread design of winter tires that enable them to displace snow from under the tire and give some friction on snow. So their grip is VERY limited in snow.
Therefor I got winter tires for winter (Studded ones for added grip) and summer tire for summer so that I dont wear them out as fast.
You might think that buying one set of tires is cheaper, but if you wear them out during summer and need to get a new set of tires for winter, whats the point in getting them and you'll end up with more spenditures than using two sets.

hope this explanation helps a bit.

I use the Hankook Ventus HRIIs as my summer tire even though they are all season. I just can't picture that tread having any grip in snow whatsoever.

For my winter tires I have Dunlop Wintersport M3s (one of the best low-pro winter tires out there) which I got because of their awesome ability in light/deep snow and even on ice and also because they handle great on dry pavement (and where I live, most of the time the road isn't covered with a bunch of snow so I need the dry pavement performance too).
