i just got one question here....why do ppl tends to love the AE86 more than the MR2....although i own a AE86 b4...but i still loves the first gen MR2 more....!! cuz it's mid-engine and real-wheel drive....and have the same GREAT engine.....i dunno....what do you guys think??

I think it's just easier to drive a FR than an MR setup. The physics behind it would suggest that the FR would just be more predictable.
I think of it this way:
If you look at a dart, the majority of the mass is at the front. So the centre of mass would be closer to the front than the back. When you throw it, the centre of mass tends to go first, then the rest of it follows. So if you throw the dart kinda crooked, it'll still straighten out.
Now turn the dart around, and put the fin things on the fat part of the dart. This puts the centre of mass closer to the back of the dart. Theoretically, you could keep the path of the dart straight under ideal conditions, but a small force almost anywhere will cause it to lose control.
Now because we've got tires and the road to keep the car under control, it's not quite as touchy as the example above. But when you get to a low friction surface...
i was told by someone that MR2s are banned in hkg after 94 or 95 models were brought in due to the deaths in them from racing.. as 4aaronGE pointed out the whole thing is simple physics.. weight is mass which controls ur speed in an out of control situation that's the only thing controlling ur spin... an FR would more likely to get the control back than an MR ...

huh?? but yyyyyyyyyy..?? ain't all of you guys just like to drift??? and how come no Japanese make MR2 famous?? just like AE86..!?!?!?!?
um.....I guess Mr. Keiichi Tsuchiya (aka the drift king) can't afford an MR2 back then so he's stuck with the 86 with a tofu delvering job, I mean if that guy is a rich kid, the MR2 would probably be the famous car instead of the 86, haha
I don't think the weight distribution part really matters on the 1st gen MR2 since the wheel base is wayyy too short to even talk about it.
But hey, there has to be some reason for Ferraris and such to use MR design right? And which car on earth have the price of a MR2 and it's mid-engine, rear wheel drive?
I'm sure MR deign have their own fun if you know how to control it. And you get crazy-traction with MR.
no one is saying that FR is superior to MR.. just that some people enjoy that balance better
like my bone stock VW GTI is faster that my bone stock ae86 (i'm sure in jsut about every possible way).. but the ae86 is still 10 times more fun to drive
