new tire time

The time has come for me to get some new tires for my 94 Corolla. I only need 2 at the moment, and am not looking to get new rims or for performance tires; just ones that will last a long time and also grip the road.

I currently have Goodyear Regatta II's on the car, which have an excellent grip, but I am not looking at them again because they have worn faster than I would like.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good all-around 14" tire? Ive been considering the Michelin HydroEdge because good traction is always welcome in New England.

Tirerack.com all the way.

Whatever tire you are considering, check the reviews on tirerack.

What is your price range, main focus of the tire (handling, performance, all year, etc etc.)

The yokohoma AVID model tire is good. I have used it on small vehicles with very good success and very reasonable.

I am looking to spend up to $100 for each tire (maybe a little more, and not including the extras they charge you for). My main concern is a tire that will both last a long time and handle well. I believe the tires I have now are 75,000 mile tires and grip extremely well, so im not worried about if a reputable 80,000 mile tire will grip

I had excellent results with a set of Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Fantastic longevity under semi-severe abuse, relatively quiet, great grip in dry or wet conditions. Mileage was excellent when they were inflated to maximum suggested pressure.

What I'm running now are Hankook Ventus--not my first choice, but I discovered the day before a 600-mile mountain excursion that I had 1/32nd tread left on the Tiger Paws and the local Sears didn't have a great selection. The Ventuses (Ventii?) are a little more noisy on uneven pavement, offer maybe 10% less of a grip limit in the dry, but are arguably a touch more grippy than the Tiger Paws were in the wet. Mileage has suffered, but I haven't had the chance to raise the pressure yet.

The recommendation for Tirerack.com is heartily seconded, BTW.
