Obtaining an LSD

Ive been on the site for a while but I usually just read the threads since I dont have an AE86 yet...

Im a few months away from buying one (august) and after a conversation with a friend he told me all Canadian models were not equiped with LSD's... and on top of that installing an OEM can be costly due to custom work on the axles...

Since the AE86 is going to be a daily driver/ocasional drifter I need an LSD...How much do used Kaaz or others (?) run for and who can get them?

oem lsd is your cheapest route.. having the axles shortened will not cost you a lot of money unless the mechanic is trying to rip you off..

new kaaz lsds are like $600 USD, or there abouts..

look in the club4ag reference section ,they have some stuff on LSD's there

i also wanna kno more about LSD, ive been to 4age.com but they dont really like answerin questions. i just thought that maybe since we all canadians and mainly in toronto, that we can all help each other out and give each other some contact numbers for some places that we can get some LSD (either KAAZ, or OEM or anything else!!??)

the different LSD, what would they be used for idealy. would a 2way be better for daily driving ?" or a 1.5? or would a 1way be better for track? dunno, can someone fill in the blanks?

are they cheap to install? what if i only got a LSD from ebay? do i need axles? or do they differ between the years?

lastly, are they worth the 600USD? or what ever the cost for them?

thnx alot !

you guys realize that Club4ag.com has a reference section, right?

when people say "look on club4ag", that's what they mean, the reference section, not the forums.

but to answer some questions,

1 way means it will lock up only on acceleration

1.5 way means it will lock up on accel, and partially on deceleration

2 way means you can get full lock up both ways

2 way is the most hardcore, trickiest to drive, etc..

1 way is what the OEM LSD is, more suitable for the street

Installing an LSD might get pricey if you only have the diff itself, but if you get one that is already installed into the third member, it;s a much smaller (and subsequently cheaper if you're paying someone) job.

is it worth it? depends what you do with your car. The first time I ever auto-x'd or tracked my ae86, it was quite obvious how much that inside rear was spinning uselessly as I exited corners.

but if you're just going to drive around town and pick up groceries or whatever, then no, it's not worth it.

also, I have to say, if yo're not getting answers on the forums on club4ag, sometimes it IS because that material was already covered in the reference section and people are tired of answering the same questions all the time.. go read the reference section.. it's interesting.. and 90% of the time, a lot more accurate than what some self-proclaimed internet ae86 guru (like me) can tell you.

I thought Kaaz discontinued the LSD for the AE86. Or at least I remember reading that on Club 4AG some time ago.
