This was a beautiful and extremely clean 1991 Corolla, it had 78,000KM on and it had no rust at all. He flipped it on an Interstate Highway in the States..
I recommended the car to him back in March this year, and I made sure everything was working great on it before we bough it. Two days before he left we got it rustproofed and ready.

He's fine! Surprisengly he came out without even a scratch on him.
We tried to bring the car back here so we could at least sell some parts, but at the rates we were quoted to bring it back it wasn't worth. So she stayed in the US...

I always bolster the battery mount on any car I own. All he had to do is run some rope around the bottom of the mount both front to back and side to side then tie it tight.
If the battery comes off while you are upside down and shorts on something it could start a fire while you are too disoriented or unconscious to notice, and fumes from a burning battery are nasty.
Glad to hear he is ok.

but one problem with our batteries in the trunk is if it explodes or leaks there is no protection from the battery and ourselfs and passengers

When a battery explodes it just sprays acid every where.
It's not like C4 or dynamite. It's not going to blow through the back seat into your passangers.
Oh, unless you have a hatch, but I would bet even those flimsy hatch covers would stop anyone from getting hurt.
Man, it's a good thing your friend still has his lid! Rollovers can be nasty. Looking at the windsheild it looks like the damage sustained in a fatality about 7 or 8 years ago on the 401 or QEW to an ae92 SR5 when a tire flew off a truck. That always freaked me out. As for the battery, just make damn sure it's bolted down like it was designed to be. I've had several friends roll cars in the recklessness of youth. I've always managed to keep it or 3 or 4 wheels myself.
He's Ok, but it's unfortunate that he left the car in the states since it would've costed him so much to tow it here in a flat bed, I would've taken that 4AFE off of him in a heart beat, the car only had 78,000KM on it! Would've been my project engine while I drive my car
