Question Need a good power source for interior lights

Hi there,

I bought myself a blue neon light at Wal-mart. It's designed to plug into the lighter outlet.

I'm gonna cut the plug off and wire it to some direct power source, but I'm not sure where would be best. I'm going to mount the light under the passenger side dash, so something close to there would be best.

I was thinking I would splice the power wires for the lighter outlet and feed off those.

Also, if anybody knows how to properly wire all this, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you can get at the back of the lighter you may find it wired into some other circuits maybe even the radio. There should be a junction box where the wires split off. If you can find this just add your wire, otherwise tap off the lighter. Suggest first plugging the neon light into the lighter outlet to see if it causes any interference with radio reception (noise).

Whats the watts on the light you want to install? Becareful of how many amps you draw from your source. You dont want to overload and possibly melt the wires. Are you going to leave the neon light running constantly? I would probably run it to the battery and a relay to prevent any problems to the other components.

why cut the connector off? Go to wal-mart or radio shack and buy the two to one cigarette lighter conection then cut the connector off of that one and wire it into the back of the cd player to the ignition wire. that way every time the ignition comes on the light comes on and everytime the ignition goes out the light goes out. Good luck. P.S. that connecter is only 2-3 bucks at radio shack

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably go with toyomoho's recommendation. The light only seams to require 0.09 amps, so I doubt it'll be overloading any wires.

Thanks
