Tech help needed on 2000 1.9 motor

Hello, I have a 2000 toyota corolla with 250,000 miles and was using a quart of oil a day to drive 250 miles round trip. A friend sold me a rollover 98 corolla with 100,000 miles and a good running 1.9 motor. So I pulled the 98 1.9 and installed it in the 2000 car, I reused the 2000 intake, valve cover and external sensors. I don't have a spot for the vt-i oil valve as I have learned this was not available on a 98. Now the problem, the car does not start. The injectors are working and I have pulled a plug and have spark, usually when I have these two combinations I get a reaction. Looks as if the injectors are gas fouling the plugs as soon as I try to start the car. Any advice would be welcome, Thanks, Ron Dixon.

check the timing, i agree with bitter, you might need to change the computer in the car or modify it.
