My 1990 AE92 oil cooler has burst. Don't know how I am getting home for christmas, but anyway, the garage quoted £400 - yikes!
There are no old Corolla's in the scrapyards in Glasgow, unfortunately (someone from Nigeria keeps buying them and sending them over there, apparently!)
There are no oil coolers currently for sale on ebay. Anyone got one and can sell it?
lol their are alot of oil coolers on ebay ! you probly wont find a factory one, but you will probly find one cheaper than what you would pay at the garage, that is if you install it yourself ?
EDIT* Ohh & if you dont wanna dish out the mulah now just take the cooler out and loop the lines !! Alot cheaper & you wont be hurting anything

thats what i asked the garage to do, and they said it would cause low oil pressure, causing engine to seize. i think they were just covering their own back!
i agree the cooler is not required at this time of year!
lol cause low oil pressure LMAO if anything it would get higher cause it doesnt have to flow through the cooler ! ohh & i dunno what the hell a euro is compared to the American dollar.. but you can get a cooler anywhere between 100-800 bucks lol

I concur, why would bypassing the oil cooler cause lower oil pressure. Is that 400 euro or pound, either way too much $$. Bypass the cooler until you can pick one. After market coolers run under $100 (US) and are easy to install. The oil may get hotter without the cooler, don’t hotrod the engine and change the oil sooner as it will break down faster at higher temps.

what else you could do if wanted......
the 4age cars in japan never came with oil coolers -- so it's ok to run w/o one.....
find a local 4afe in a junkyard (if possible)... pull the oil filter off (if not already) and unbolt the 'screw' that the oil filter screws onto (should screw right into the block).... you can then remove the entire oil cooler assmebly off of the block and bolt the new screw in it's place -- the oil filter will then just bolt right to the block (my ae92 4age is that way and my old 4agze mr2 was that way as well)
