USA After the starter motor burns out

My Daughter's corolla had a starter motor burn out. We replaced the motor, but the car won't start.

Has anyone ever done this and a similar situtation?

How is the battery testing? Have you tried to jump the contacts on the starter itself? How is the wire that goes to the starter?

Before you even go that far. When you say the car doesnt start; does that mean the starter wont spin? The engine doesnt try to crank? A few specifics might be of some help. Incidentally; check your connection from the battery to the starter and check the engine fuse. If you sparked anything during your replacement you could have blown a fuse very easily.

Divers right more info needed

Always remember to disconnect the battery before doing a replacement...That said there is a few wires that go onto the small post on the starter...Have you put them all on and correctly and tightened them up?

If your can doesn't crank at all look for a loose wire going to the small post on the starter...Similar thing happened to my friend and we found one small wire loose just laying in the connector not making contact.,..

Guess the worse thing is if you had a spark(from the battery not being disconnected) and it burnt out one of your sensors...Or your battery just might be dead.....

Good Luck...Let us know the outcome...

are you sure that the engine you dropped in was in good working order? if it cranks but wont start, it could be that the timing belt is done, but like radd said, we need more info

i dont think daf62757 was refering to an engine, there is no timing belts on starter motors Anyvays daf62757 more info needed like diver said, does the car try to start or does it just do nothing when you turn the key, if it trys to start you got a diffrent problem than the starter and I would check to see if you have fuel, spark and then follow the symptoms. If it doesnt do anything at all it could be a dead battery, incorrectly installed motor, starter not hooked up right, starter not grounded properly, blown fuse. Let us know.

Sorry for the lack of info:

It was a 1998 Corolla. We put in a new starter and the motor turns very well, but the engine won't start.

I had a freind suggest disconnecting the batter in that maybe some electornic controller might reset itself.

It it possible that when the starter motor burned out, it burned something else?

Thanks!

sounds like the starter burned out due the engine having a problem previously. Sort of like the engine was not starting right to begin with. Check to see if there is spark to the spark plugs then fuel to the injectors.

it is possible there is a short in your electrical system that shorted out the starter in the first place and then fried the starter, it is also possible the "main relay", or a fuse in the fuse box burnt. Check all of your fuses and let us know if any are blown and replace them with the correct amperage if they are blown.
