just came back from looking at an '85 gts 2 door (coupe). here's the scoop:

- the clutch pedal feels like the accel pedal on Sega Daytona USA. it's very light, but clutch seems to engage pretty okay cause i brought it up to redline with minor slipperage evident. is it because the clutch master cylinder is gone or out of fluid?

- opened up coolant resovoir and found nothing but brown stuff on the inside and it's completely dry. in my 20 minutes high reving the car, the temp gauge showed absolutely no fluctuation. is that gonna be a major problem or maybe the owner just forgot to top it off? is it normal to loose coolant if you don't refill it?

- the 'check engine' light comes on when i floor the car, why?? is that serious?

- some kind of grinding noise from the back, either be it bearing or tires. are rear bearings expensive to replace?

- shifter is very loose, but still precise. any comment here? replace tranny oil?

- the head has oily deposits around the spark plug area

- idle speed is around 1100rpm

visual of the car:

- all panels are all out of line

- rust is okay, not very serious

i'm gonna be paying like 600cdn for the car, or maybe less. think it's worth it? i'm gonna put it up a hoist to let my friend look at it even more. any suggests or help would be very much appreciated, thanks!!

the loose shifter probably just means the shifter bushing is worn.. not a big deal..

the oily deposits around the spark plugs could mean the gasket around the valve cover(s) is bad.. still not a big deal.. one of my beater hachi's had that same problem..

and yeah, rear wheel bearings are expensive.. I think they're over $100 each..

but for $600, you gotta expect all that kind of stuff

i think the main things to worry about is whether you can get it certified or not.. so make sure there's no holes in the floor and nothing is leaking fluids..

oh yeha, for the clutch feel, maybe it just needs bleeding? i dunno..
