For what USDM corollas can diesels go into? I am think upto 98 1c to 3c-III.
I remember seeing a 2c-t on ebay awhile back. I looked pretty nice. I was thinking about the possibility of putting a 2c-t in a Corolla all-trac. I think that would be super awesoem, although I have heard the all-trac system isn't very good/reliable.

if in good/reliable you mean you'll never have problems with it other than the notorious second gear grind in the manual transmission then yes you are right

I am saying just buy a vw... you have to be careful with diesel and automatic since your gonna want it turbo.. and diesels already put out alot of torque. You should see the transmisson on my 1990 turbo diesel jetta. It almost looks like a rwd transmission!
Well that's good to know about the all-trac. This car would be for my GF so it would have to be an automatic.
And you guys are saying a VW turbo engine and a chevette disiel might work in a corolla? How do you know this and what years/models?
freakinthebox is right, the diesel turbo setup would put out a lot of torque, corolla transmissions are not built to handle this, especially when your talking 15+ year old transmissions. your best bet is to buy a vw diesel jetta, or one of those diesiel rabits for $500

nah he'd have to buy a newer vw, older vw diesels only can standard... but they are fairly easy to drive compared to a gas standard...
thats why I said it might be a problem, not only the size of the tranny but the fact older ones might only be manual? I don't know about older diesel cars outside VW
Here is what I understand... The Corolla is japan had diesel in the three generations from 86(?) to 1998. The 1c-III, 2c-III, then finally the 3c-e(?). My GF basically wants something thats has run, fuel efficeient, automatic and safe. So, I was thinking a biodiesel corolla alltrac would be a good option for her. ALthough she expressed an interest in a tercel like mine. Of course being a girl she likes a lot what looks cut/pretty too. I know she really likes those four-two SMART cars. They are so impractical though. Older diesels are great but it's hard finding one in an automatic. I say an auto audi wagon ahile back
The earlier VW diesels were stick shift only. I don't think they put in automatics in the diesels until a few years ago. Didn't Toyota make a diesel Camry back in the 80s? I imagine those mught be hard to find. But hey, VWs aren't any fun without the stick shifts. The 1980s vintage diesels are kind of low horsepower (and yes, I realize they have more torque), and any automatic would make them painfully slow. It's bad enough that they could get 0 - 60 in two weeks!
If you want more information than you ever want to know about the VW TDIs, go to www.tdiclub.com.
my vw turbo diesel has 63 hp stock, might be a little higher now since my dad said the blowoff valve was changed to one that allows for more psi. There was an intercooled version of the engine, which I would think also has a larger turbo because it pushes out 90 hp rather than 63.
Even with 63 hp it's pretty fun to drive because of the torque.
But thats what I was saying about the auto. I don't know if the older toyota diesels are auto or not since your gonna want the trans for the diesel rather than trying to use a gas one.
Toyota does not have many diesel motors in North America, finding parts would probably be very expensive, sourcing a motor and doing the swap into it would probably be very expensive also, when you think about it, you'd be better off finding a north american diesel car with more support.
thats what cool about my vw... the wreckers are full of them. 1985 - 1992 most parts are interchangable . I think you need to get your gf to learn standard lol. Oo lets point out they are cheap to pick up!
