new here, just got an 04 corolla

it runs well but there are a few things i'd like to ask about

- the gas pedal has a bit too much freeplay and i'm a pretty new manual driver so it was tough learning to not over-rev the engine, especially since there are a lot of hills around here. is there a screw or something to tighten?

- there's a funny black cable that looks like telephone wire that sometimes falls out onto the pedals while im driving. it comes from the area behind the steering wheel. what is it?

- when i steer all the way to one side it makes a little whining sound. is this the cv joints?

thanks for help!

get up under it and look for an adjustment on the gas pedal arm.
theres like 100 wires behind your dash, I doubt anyone is gonna know which one of your wires fell down. Zip tie it to the other wires under the dash.
The noise is most likely from your power steering pump.

^ I agree, also you're not supposed to turn your steering wheel ALL the way to either end as it stresses the power steering system, hence the reason you hear it "whine"

I agree, but also check the power steering fluid level.

Welcome Frank, I got an 05, too. I have about 38,000 Kilometers on it now. We have 5 more horses than the 06 or 07. It is a good car.

Actually you have the same horsepower, it's the SAE Horspower ratings that were fixed last year, hence it appears as if the older cars have more power when they don't.

Just a note that loud noises from steering when going side to side can be an indicator of a front end accident!
