Hey, I'm new to the site and a Honda guy but my neighbor has a question that im trying to help him figure out. He has a '97 corolla and we are trying to figure out which axel is the drive axel (the one that puts the power to the ground

).

We assumed that it would be the shorter axel which is on the driver side because of the less amount of stress it would recieve, however both front tires were replaced as the same time and we measured the tread depth with a tread guage and the passanger side is worn more.

Just wondering if anyone can help out, he is a little reluctant to jack it up and put her and drive or to do a burn out haha.

Go get your alignment checked first.

the corolla's a FWD vehicle so both front wheels are drive wheels. there are 2 CV shafts that transmitt power.. both the short and the long....

The tire wear has nothing to do with it!

the reason that only one wheel does a burnout is because corolla's have an open diff meaning the diff sends power to the slipping wheel, either one of the front wheels can spin up just depends on traction!
