Newbie has question about Corolla's

Hello,

I've been looking for a late 1990's early 2000 Corolla. I've noticed that many of them have around 105K to 110K miles. Is this some magic number? I mean, is there a big required maintenance looming around the corner such as new belts, hoses, etc? I'd just like to know before I get one of these cars.

Thanks for your help and input

K

The late 90's - 00's will have ZZ engines. So they have timing chains.
So no, nothing big coming up.

No major changes, however the average person still lives on the idea that once a car reaches 100k its time to get rid of it before it starts to fall apart. That may be true with FORD and CHEVY but not with toyota!!!!

glad you said may - my cadavalier had 250k miles on an original motor and tranny...the suspension went out on that V6 before the motor even started getting cranky.

If you take care of any car, you'll most likely get good service out of it.. It just so happens that even if you run the crap out of toyotas they still seem to hold up... I'll never buy another american car again.. This is coming from a guy who was raised on Ford's and Chevy's...

Make sure its not leaking oil or antifreeze before u buy it...2 most common problems with corollas 7+ years old...but many of you are right. You can beat the hell out of a toyota and unless u crash it its not going to die assumeing u give it some oil once in a while and give it a good tune up anually

Maintenance is the key word here. If the oil and anitfreeze changes have been made on a timely basis and the transmission serviced at proper intervals it should go a couple hundred more thousand miles. I have 215,000 on my 03. Years on a car will take more of a toll than miles. I personally have owned 5 different Corvettes and have seen older cars that had under 20,000 miles have all types of different problems with them. The problems were from improper storage and mainly from not driven enough. Once an engine is up to operating temperature there is basically no wear at all. It's the initial start up that wears out an engine. To make a long story short look it over real good before you buy it....not after you paid for the car.

You had a what? Yeah I agree that if you take care of any of them and they are properly maintained that they will last a long time. Some more than others and some are more fun to fix than others too.

Caviar? Yes, it's great with crackers! The rear engined Chevrolet Corsair was a good car too.
