E-brake weak

I'm not sure how much emergency brakes are supposed to stop your car, but pulling mine all the way up only gradually brings it to a stop. I was under the impression that pulling it all the way was supposed to lock your rear tires. Is it ok as it is, or should it be tight enough to lock the tires?

Should be able to lock the rears if going slow ie 50-60km/h

You can adjust them in the car, just have to take the interior off around the lever.
Loosen the nuts and pull some more cable through then thghten them again, should only have about 4-5 click before its on.

that, or the shoes/pads on the ebrake need to be replaced.

Considering the previous owner took terrible care of this car, and I didn't know the ebrake has its own shoes and pads, that might be it. I think I'll try adjusting it first though.

the e-brake doesnt have its own shoes or pads. The e-brake is connected to the rear brakes of the car (whether their drum or disc). The e-brake then manually using a cable pulls the shoes or pads against the drum or disc to slow the car down.

see, i'm thinking in Chevy terms. a few chevy vehicles DO have their own ebrake, separate from the rest of the brakes.
