Lsd compatibility

Hey guys ive got a question im sure someone must know.

OK Ive got a E51 non lsd gearbox with shafts, im wanting to know if a viscous lsd out of a e153 will fit into my e51 box and will i be able to use the original non lsd shafts. Is there even any fifference between shafts from a e51 non lsd and a e51 lsd. Will the splines fit the e153 lsd. All info appreciated.

From what I understand, yes it will fit. But for it to work you will need the LSD inner CV's

IS there a difference between lsd shafts and non lsd shafts like longer cv's or more splines??? What about boxes that got aftermarket lsd's fitted are those lsd's suited to non lsd shafts or did they also need to replace their inner cv's. Or are you saying ill need the MR2 inner cv's? Thanks

Splines are the same AFAIK (but don't quote me)
But the shaft goes further into the gearbox, the extra length makes the LSD work.

From what a mate has told me, an LSD diff will behave like an open diff if it has non LSD shafts fitted.

But on the toyspeed forum in NZ (you should know) someone posted saying that the e51 lsd and non lsd shafts are the same. So will these shafts fit into the e153 lsd. Or do i need other shafts i understood id need the lsd ones but have been told they are the same as the non lsd ones for the e51. So will the e51 shafts fit the e153 lsd? splines fit?

Ah see I've never had a propper look at an E153.
I've only worked on the E series that came with the GZE, which I assume is the E51.

Would depend on what type of LSD the e153 has, which is something I don't know.

Yeah i have a e51 g/box (non lsd) with shafts, and can get a viscous lsd from a e153 (mr2 i think) now i needed to know if it will fit into the gearbox. if it does will the shafts from the e51 work with this lsd. I know im repeating myself but u seem to be the only person that can help me.

Here is a link to my post at toyspeed.
http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewto...=542985#542985

Guys here say that the cvs might fit but they dnt think the lsd will fit. I dnt want to buy this lsd and it doesnt fit into my e51 g/box or my e51 cv's dnt fit into the lsd.

I get a little confused as you say one thing and they say the other.

Just keep posting what you know i need all the info i can get.

They would probably know more than me, I just assumed the E153 and the E51, would have interchangeable LSDs.

On a mates car we have put the LSD for an AE101 GZE into his AE92 GZE gearbox was easy to fit but he had to run the LSD shafts.

How much is the LSD you're looking at?
because you can get a good condition AE101 GZE box and shafts for $500 which saves the stuffing around of opening up a gearbox.

YEah the thing is i just bought this box being told it was lsd then when i got it home it wasnt. so i dnt wanna go out and have to buy a new box. So i was pretty gutted. I got the box shafts, flywheel and pressure plate for $300 and i can get the viscous lsd for $250. But firstly i need to know if it will fit. But i cant get a straight answer, so im pretty hesitant in buying it.
