geo powa!

My girlfriend is getting me an obx header for our 3year anniversary and i have a few questions that were unanswered in the threads i found when i searched.

These parts will be put on my 94 1.6 prizm (automatic). I dont want to go turbo but some basic bolt ons to keep occupied with and i dont want to do a swap or turbo so dont suggest that. This is my daily driver and I deliver car parts with it.

Like i said, my girlfriends getting me the OBX header. About a month later (march) im going to buy an underdrive pulley, k+n filter with ebay short ram pipe, new oem catalytic converter and probaly stock exhaust with the muffler removed and a straight pipe put in its place (dosent sound bad, had no muffler on my last prizm). When i do the timing belt/ water pump im going to be doing the head gasket for the hell of it. At that point im going to have the head port and polished as well as shaved to up the compression a bit. But that in june when I put my camaro on the road and the geo is off the road until november. More concerned about the bolt on stuff.

Im going to also get that ebay 15$ strut tower brace and eibach or other lowering springs w shocks because i the shocks and springs on my car are shot.

So think this will make for a fun little daily driver? I would think my gas milage should inprove as well with less restriction on the motor. Im hoping to atleast feel a difference if even a little in performance and handling. I drive it 150 to 200 miles a day and am lookin for a little more fun out of it.

Im sure you fellow geo prizm owners love when you drop a gear and suprise the shit out of those stock (other then the muffler) 80's honda owners when you pass them with the intake screaming. They look at each other, was that a geo?

Just the header with stock exhaust is going to give you an interesting experience. You'll have way more lowend on tap but the highway cruising isn't really going to improve. Before I had my cat-back done, just the header with otherwise stock piping kept throwing a CEL. Additionally, the resonator will no longer properly deaden the rasp. Above about 3,000-4,000 RPMs, you'll be making noises that will set off car alarms. =) If you want my old 2.25" o2-sensor-back system with a Magnaflow Wide Open Performance muffler on the end, drop me a line.

With the brace and the Pro-Kit springs, yes, the car will feel a lot different and better able to hold the road. Sounds like a good plan...good luck.

hmmm can you post pics of your exhaust? What does the exhaust sound like with the stock catback? Im very interested in hearing what that sounds like. The buddy has a 2000 honda prelude with a dc sport header and stock exhaust and it sounds pretty good.

i bet that OBX is just like my $100 ebay header, piloter its the other way around. i lost a little lowend and gained mid and upper end power.

click my signature to hear a 7afe with header and stock exhaust minus muffler.

Answered most of your questions via a reply to the PM you sent. As for pics of the system, here's a couple. Please ignore the pumpkins.

I think i may end up using the header to a new cat to a resonater then a sentra se-r vspec muffler. Those cars come with 170hp stock and from what i've read they dont gain anything from an aftermarket exhaust because the stock exhaust flows so well. Not only that im going to force my friend to get a catback exhaust on his sentra so i can take his stock muffler out of the garbage when hes not looking.

oh yea, a 94 shouldnt throw a code with the header, its got only one O2 sensor and shouldnt even have an EGR. try running 89 octane fuel and advanving timing 3-5 degrees and getting a safc and wideband and doing some AF tuning as well. those 2 things should see a small increase in mileage, the header didnt change my mileage for better or worse.

Let us know how it sounds. =)

Only 1 O2 sensor on the 93-94, Bitter? Is it the upstream or downstream? My 96 has one of each...perhaps that's one of the changes they made for the OBD-2 switch?

yours is OBD2 and probably cali spec emissions.

93-95 model years outside cali had one O2 sensor before the cat.

Not to sound like an ass, but this sounds like a mockery of me. TRDPrizm is my screen name on a couple other boards and you mentioned about 5 things that ive done or posted about

lol thats weird. I see in your sig you pretty much did what i want to do. I have an extra 7afe that im seriously thinking about getting the head shaved and port and polished. How much did you shave the head to acheive that compression ratio? Did you feel a difference? Do you plan on getting a lightweight crank pulley? On my old eagle talon it made the most difference out of all the bolt ons i did. You got 1 up on me tho even after I finish, you have a 5sp. Although i may be swapping that out in the spring when my camaro goes back on the road. Is your car alot quicker now with all of that work?
