Need Carb Diagram for 1989 4AF

Looks like I'm going to have to rebuild the carb or at least disassemble and clean it. My Haynes manual doesn't have an exploded view or any information on doing this.

I have seen a few posts on here where others have successfully rebuilt their carbs and I was wondering if any of you can share diagrams or instructions etc.

I have rebuilt motorcycle carbs before but never an automobile so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jeff

My 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5, with Carb.

thanx..

ok,, I will check to see if I know of online resources I used.. besides what came in the kit.. they give you a diagram in the carb rebuild kit....
so you can put al the connections and hoses back where they belong

I also suggest you take a digital camera and take a buttload of snapshots from all angles of the engine and carb before you start taking it apart..

Well I have the carb apart but I never saw the "thingy" anywhere.

So far I have diassembled everything but part number 104, 105, 106 on the rebuild diagram. Does anyone know how the plug(#104) comes out of the throttle body? I guess this would be better directed at someone like retiredat44 who has rebuilt the carb themselves. Thanks in advance.

I have to get the diagram out,, I can tell you, that I recommend doing this:

1)don't mess with the float. it will probably be set correctly even after all these years form the factory. Save yourself needless work.

Make sure you don't mix up the big three bottom screws, one has a hole through it that must go back intot he proper place for the carb to operate correctly.

YOu can go ahead with almost everything else, but if you are unsure about soemthing that just will not come apart, take it slow don't rush.

Be very careful with tiny parts. and springs.

If you can, buy a can of carb cleaner, the kind witht he basket in it for putting part in while soaking for a couple days...

be very careful what you put into the carb cleaner, don't put plastic parts in or others. The directions also state this!

After a couple day you may forget what goes where, try to take pictures, make notes..

I will close this note and see if I can find a diagram.. but I am pretty sure I sent you most the good stuff and besides the carb kit came with the best little diagram in the kit, that is folded up. it's not the best quality but extremely important. It's tiny diagram with notes for each part in the carb., and you will need good eyes and a magnifying glass to read it. I got my kit at Napa Auto but that was a couple years back..
Oh yeah, take a shop towel and put it in the top of the instake manfild to cover the opening after you pul the carb off.. to keep dirt and parts and tools from dropping into the intake manifold while the carb is off..

did you remember to take pictures? before moving stuff? even while they aey are apart also help.. but before is most important for putting things back correctly..
