I have 1 95 Corolla with the 1.8L 7afe engine. It makes a pretty loud rattle/clicking sound from the front top of the engine on decceleration only. Doesn't sound like valves to me.Does this engine have twin cams where one shaft drives the other with a gear and if so could that be the noise? And how setious is it?

could someone have worked on the motor lately?? Maybe the cam pre-load isn't set up right?

I've only had the vehicle for 4 months so it's possible. Didn't make the noise at all for about 1000 mi, then it started suddenly. Now have about 5000 on it and it's no worse. 113K on the engine, original engine as far as I know.
