Hey, I've been wanting to improve the handling of my '92 Corolla sedan. The only company who makes springs for my car is JIC and they are close to $2000. I don't have that kind of money to spend yet so I was thinking of maybe just putting on springs from the Corolla GTS. I don't see what the problem would be, they should just bolt right up, the GTS is only an inch shorter than the sedan and only weighs about 25 more pounds. When I asked the mechanics at Toyota they said I wouldn't get the results I wanted due to the setup moving from a coupe to a sedan, with the weight difference. Especially with the difference of the two engines. I am currently replacing the engine and transmission on my car as well, I accidentally blew the engine at 110 mph. Anyways, neither engine or transmission has come in yet but the two friends who are helping me with this project say that I need to get a new torque converter. It's a 3 speed automatic with the 4afe. It has 96,000 miles and has been sitting for about 4 or 5 months. What do you think? If I do how much will it cost and where can I get one? Let me know about this stuff. Oh, and also if you know of a reputable company that makes performance parts for the AE92 corolla let me know. Thanks, all help is greatly appreciated....
Lots of companies make springs for your car, APEX, Suspension Techniques, Intrax , Eibach, B+G, etc. If you're looking for Coilovers, yeah JIC is probably your only choice, but springs are more available, you just gotta know where to look.
As for performance parts for the AE92, they're somewhat hard to get, specially for the 4AFE motor. Get a swap.
For handling, get good lowering springs, new replacment shocks (even factory spec are fine) and the swaybars from a 4ag powered car. It will be a huge step up, and will be very cheap.
For power, ditch the auto. (probably cheaper to buy a factory manual)

I would love to do a swap to a manuel or a celica turbo or even the GTS engine. I was also thinking maybe the engine from a '91-'95 MR2 turbo, can't remember the code...anyways, I want to eventually get enough money saved to do a ton of custom work, something like a 2JZE engine in it with the 6 speed and rwd conversion. A ton of hours and money but I think it would be a blast to pull up to these civic's and even other Supra's and blow them off the road. I think I'm gonna take your advice "punter". I think I'll just do the factory replacement shocks and do Eibach springs. I can afford aftermarked sway bars and strut bars. I think I found some; have to double check. Thanks for all the help so far, keep it all coming!
when you do the rwd conversion, tell us what it's like w/o the kidney you gave up to pay for it they didn't make a rwd corolla after the ae86, so ur gonna have to get all the parts fabricated and highly modify your corolla to convert it, but if you can afford that kind of custom work, make sure you take pics/make a video when ur done and show it to all of us. it should be cool

Lol, I will totally do that!!! Lol, I know it will cost a flippin ton of money but it would also be hella sweet!!! I'm gonna start saving as soon as I upgrade the stereo in my car and the handling. My car looks almost identical to your car fistofmeat. Except my windows are tinted to 27% thanks to my dad wanting me to have a cool car. The only probelm is that in the summer, thanks to the dark tint and blue interior, it gets extremely hot!!! Oh well, it's cool I guess. Great for certain things. And I'm missing one of my hubcaps cause it keeps falling off. Anyways, keep the advice coming please. I love reading your ideas. I'm also wanting to paint my car, any ideas on that?
Oh boy...I guess I'm gonna have to return. I'm not too worried about it. I'll have $100,000 before I try it just to make sure I have enough money . Anyways we ran into some problems yesterday when we were trying to do the engine swap. Mine is a 4AFE and the one we bought is a 5AFE. We can trade it for another 4AFE but I hate to wait that long. Toyota said we could pretty much just swap my intake manifold and headers and it would work. Is it worth it? What's the horsepower and torque rating from the 5AFE? What car did it come from? Thanks all...
